Bishop Jakes, has received numerous honors, including 13 honorary degrees and doctorates, he also received a Grammy Award for the gospel album live at the potter's house.Time magazine even featured him on the cover of its September 2001 issue. He's a minister, evangelist, life coach, author and actor.
Let's take a more personal look at one of America's top religious leaders.
Thomas Dexter Jake's senior, was born in South Charleston West Virginia, his father was a janitor and his mother was an educator, as a child he was known as the Bad Bible Boy and he was told he would never be able to preach because of his bad Lisp.
Bishop TD jakes decided to go into ministry shortly after his father died of kidney failure in the late 1970s, with only ten initial members he founded Greater Emmanuel Temple of Faith Church, Jakes maintained his day job digging ditches in order to support his ministry until the church was in a position to support him.
- Within 10 years, the church grew to over a thousand members.
- At the age of 24 Jake's married Miss Sarita and Jamison and they have five children together.

- Bishop TD jakes sermons are broadcast nationally and internationally on the Potter's touch which airs on five separate channels.
- Another aspect of Bishop TD jakes's ministry includes an annual revival called megafest that draws more than a hundred thousand people.
Bishop TD jakes has been involved in evangelistic outreach events both locally and internationally. At local level, and to mention only some of the church's contributions, the Potter House reaches AIDS victims through education and assistance as well as people in prisons.
Internationally, Potter House launched the "Faith for Africa" program, which is to reach and meet the physical and spiritual needs of people near Nairobi, Kenya. Once again, this is just a small picture of the positive impact that Jakes has made through his church.

This film was produced by Stan Foster and Reuben Cannon. It is the 44th film or series directed by Schultz and was adapted from the self-help novel by T. D. Jakes.
The film is about the story of a young woman who must come to terms with a long history of sexual abuse, drug addiction, and poverty. It has been reported that the story was loosely based on the screenwriter's past relationship with a college girlfriend. A gospel stage play preceded the film.
Starring Dave (Morris Chestnut) and Clarice Johnson (Taraji P. Henson).
They have reached a breaking point in their marriage. When Clarice was injured in an accident, her mother Mary (Jenifer Lewis) intervenes.
The obvious truth that more than just her injuries need immediate attention is exposed.
Clarice stars to be treated by Julie (Maeve Quinlan), a physical therapist. Dave develops a friendship with Julie and also with her teenage son Bryson (Cannon Jay). The comfort Dave finds in the two stirs his longing for a family and a passionate partner. When Bryson unexpectedly dies in a swimming accident, Dave and Julie's relationship grows closer as Clarice pulls farther away. Dave and Clarice are forced to confront whether their marriage vows are or are not easily broken.
Later, Dave visits Julie after she calls him, and he comforts her in her grief. They begin to kiss, but Dave realizes it is Clarice he truly wants. The couple reunites once Clarice expresses to him the reasons for her mother having such a big input in their marriage. They reunite and Dave finds out that Clarice is pregnant.
